Agendas
Students will be expected to use their agendas daily. Students will use this form of communication for what it is we are learning each day.
Homework
No formal homework will be assigned this year. Homework will only consist of classwork that your child did not finish during the school day due to poor choices. Research has been unable to prove that homework improves student performance. I ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success. Eat Dinner as a family, read together, play outside, and get your child to bed early.
Projects
This year your child will be completing long term projects. Projects will be done both individually and in cooperative groups. There may be times when the long term projects will need assistance from parents at home, however, most projects will be completed in class. Long term projects help teach students time-management, how to cooperate in groups, and enables students to think more critically to show understanding.
Fun in the Sun
Fun in the sun is a free choice time for those who earned it by completing their assignments from the previous week. They are known as "pickles" as they get to pick an activity. Those who do not have their assignments completed need to "ketchup" and will use the extra time to do so.
Grading
We use Standards Based Grading to assess students' mastery level of skills taught. Below you will see the grading scale and how those scores are earned. When grading using Standards based grading, students are assessed in a variety of different methods- independent work, formal and informal observations through small group work, and assessments.
4- Highly Proficient (above grade level mastery)
3- Proficient (80%-100 %)
2- Partially Proficient (79%-60%)
1-Minimally Proficient (59%-0%)
